What is laser?

How it works

What we treat

Brain laser therapy

Specific conditions that we treat

The formal name is called photobiomodulation therapy. It is a form of light therapy that uses non-ionizing lights in the visible and infrared spectrum. It is a non-thermal procedure that causes light to be absorbed by endogenous chromophores (molecules responsible for colours – Cytochrome C oxidase, porphyrins, flavins, Adenine Nucleotides (NADH), subsequently triggering multiple photophysical and photochemical events.

Laser has been used widely in the cosmetic industry with class 4 laser, which helps remove unwanted body hair. However, the laser we use belongs to the class 3 laser, which "modulates" or balances the body's cell response instead of causing tissue destruction. It is safe without harmful radiation, and patients don't feel any pain or burning sensation. However, some people can feel tired and dizzy after the session, so we usually start with a small dose of light energy for the initial 1-2 sessions to make sure it is tolerable for you.

  • Relief pain – by reducing pain transmission signals  (blocking action potential and nociceptive blockade).

  • Decrease mitochondria membrane potential, thus decreasing ATP production.

  • Disrupt microtubule polymerization.

  • Opening up blood vessels (vasodilatation).

  • Anti-inflammatory.

  • Immunomodulating.

  • promote tissue healing and regeneration.

  • Higher dose of 100mW was shown to better help tendon collagen fiber organization.

  • Reduce muscle spasms – at a high dose for 10-15 min.

  • Modulate CNS neurotransmitter production.

  • Stimulate tissue stem cells for tissue regeneration.

  • Tendon/ ligament injury/ sprain: Ankle sprain, rotator cuff syndrome

  • Chronic neck and back pain

  • Joint pain: arthritis, TMJ dysfunction

  • Post-surgical pain and swelling

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Chronic wound healing

  • Peripheral neuropathy: Carpal tunnel syndrome, CRPS

  • Lymphedema

We only use devices that have been scientifically proven by leading universities around the world; one particular device is called Vielight, which in collaborated with Boston University, the University of Sydney and University of California San Francisco and the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs.
